To
COUNT FRANZ V. OPPERSDORF, Vienna
November
1, 1808
Best
Count !
You
will judge me in a false light, but necessity compels
me
to sell the symphony which was written for you, and
still
another one, to some one else. But rest assured that
you
will soon receive the one intended for you. I hope that
you
still continue in good health, and also your good
lady,
to whom please give my kindest regards. I am living-
just
below Prince Lichnowsky, at Countess Erdödy's, if you
should
happen to honour me with a visit here in Vienna.
My
affairs are improving, without the help of people
who
treat their friends to flails. I have also received
a
call as capellmeister to the King of Westphalia, which
very
probably I shall accept.
Farewell,
and think sometimes of,
Yours
truly,
Beethoven.
The 4th Symphony (1806) was dedicated to Count Oppersdorf
